About our Programme:

  • Our mentoring programme delivers tailored, offsite 1:1 mentoring as a high-quality alternative provision, designed to meet the unique educational, personal, and developmental needs of each pupil. Rooted in a holistic, safe, and engaging approach, our programme empowers students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Below is an overview of our enhanced mentoring offer:

    • Flexible Session Structure: Sessions are 3 hours long and can be scheduled up to 5 days a week, providing adaptable timetables to accommodate individual pupil needs and circumstances.

    • Cost-Effective Provision: Our mentoring programme is designed to be highly competitive, offering exceptional value compared to the market average for alternative provision mentoring services, ensuring accessible, high-quality support for all pupils.

    • Personalised Pathways: Upon referral, each pupil is matched with a dedicated specialist mentor and assigned to one of four tailored pathways, ensuring a bespoke learning journey:

      • Support: Prioritises pupil wellbeing to establish a strong foundation, equipping students with the confidence and resilience to progress to other Apex pathways and plan their future steps.

      • Inspire: The entry point for most students, this pathway builds strong relationships with mentors and the wider Apex team, creating a personalised educational journey anchored by individual academic and personal growth targets.

      • Flourish: Focuses on removing barriers to learning, fostering confidence, socialisation, and engagement skills to support pupils aiming to reintegrate into mainstream school or college settings.

      • Succeed: Empowers young people to work towards further education, training, employment, or independent living, enhancing wellbeing, interaction, learning, and life skills through our comprehensive curriculum.

    • Comprehensive and Inclusive Curriculum: Our curriculum is tailored to each pupil’s aspirations and needs, with a strong emphasis on core subjects (English, Maths, and Science) to develop essential skills. We provide:

      • GCSE Tuition: Personalised tutoring to support pupils in achieving GCSE qualifications, with targeted strategies to ensure academic progress and exam success.

      • Functional Skills Qualifications: Accredited qualifications in English, Maths, and ICT, designed to enhance practical skills for employability and everyday life.

      • Vocational Certificates and Qualifications: Opportunities to earn accredited qualifications in fields such as health and social care, construction, hospitality, and creative industries, aligning with pupils’ career goals.

      • Extended Curriculum: Enrichment through subjects like art, humanities, music, and physical education, promoting creativity, critical thinking, and well-rounded development.

      • Vocational Areas: Hands-on learning experiences in vocational fields, equipping pupils with practical skills and real-world applications to prepare for future careers.

    • Progress Monitoring and Reviews: Pupil engagement and progress are monitored daily against referral targets, with comprehensive 6-weekly reviews to evaluate development, refine goals, and ensure alignment with each pupil’s aspirations and needs. Detailed progress reports are shared with parents, carers, and stakeholders.

    • Flexible Delivery Locations: Sessions are delivered in accessible and comfortable settings, including community venues, pupils’ homes (with a parent present), or vocational/educational facilities, ensuring an environment conducive to learning and growth.

    • Specialist SEND Support: Our programme is supported by a Level 7 qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and a specialist inclusion lead. We provide targeted interventions for pupils with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring bespoke support to meet their unique needs and promote inclusion.

    • Robust Safeguarding Standards: Our mentors, employed directly by Apex (not self-employed), undergo the same rigorous checks as all Apex school staff, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines. All staff are Level 3 safeguarding trained and overseen by an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and senior Apex leaders. Mentors hold specialist insurance and complete thorough risk assessments for pupil transport and session delivery. We maintain strict safeguarding protocols, including ongoing staff training, detailed incident reporting, and close collaboration with families, Ofsted, and local authorities to ensure pupil safety and wellbeing.

    • Holistic Support and Enrichment: In addition to academic progress, our programme offers enrichment activities, including vocational workshops, creative projects, physical activities, and community-based initiatives, tailored to each pupil’s interests to foster confidence, resilience, and social skills.

    • Parental and Community Engagement: We prioritise strong partnerships with parents, carers, and stakeholders through regular updates, collaborative planning meetings, and open communication channels to create a cohesive support network for each pupil.

    • Transition and Reintegration Support: For pupils preparing to return to mainstream education, pursue further education, or enter employment, we provide tailored transition planning. This includes close liaison with schools, colleges, employers, and other relevant organisations to ensure a seamless and successful reintegration.

    • Bespoke Mentor Matching: Our mentors are carefully selected to align with each pupil’s needs, interests, and goals, fostering meaningful relationships that enhance engagement and outcomes. Mentors are trained to adapt their approach to suit diverse learning styles and challenges.

    • Focus on Long-Term Outcomes: Our programme is designed to empower pupils with the skills, qualifications, and confidence needed for sustained success, whether in education, employment, or independent living, ensuring they are well-prepared for their next steps.
