Safeguarding

Safeguarding Across the Whole School

Safeguarding is the highest priority at Healey Learning Centre.

We operate one integrated safeguarding system across all learning centres, ensuring consistent standards of protection, care and oversight wherever pupils are educated. Safeguarding arrangements are coordinated at whole-school level, with clear leadership, shared systems and consistent professional practice across all sites.

Our approach is child-centred, proactive and responsive. Every member of staff shares responsibility for safeguarding and is trained to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and seek support when needed.

A Whole-School Safeguarding Structure

Healey Learning Centre operates under a single safeguarding structure across all premises.

Overall safeguarding accountability rests with the Headteacher and the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), who oversee safeguarding practice across the entire provision. Each learning centre also has trained Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs) to ensure immediate local support and effective day-to-day safeguarding supervision.

This structure provides:

  • Clear lines of responsibility and escalation

  • Consistent safeguarding standards across all learning centres

  • Immediate local response when concerns arise

  • Central oversight of safeguarding practice

  • Coordinated support for pupils and families

Safeguarding leadership operates across all sites as part of one unified school.

Safeguarding Leadership and Oversight

Senior leaders maintain active oversight of safeguarding practice through:

  • Regular monitoring and review of safeguarding concerns

  • Supervision and support for safeguarding staff

  • Whole-school safeguarding training

  • Cross-site communication and case discussion

  • Quality assurance and compliance monitoring

Safeguarding is reviewed continuously to ensure procedures remain effective and responsive to pupil need.

Unified Safeguarding Systems

The school operates shared safeguarding systems across all learning centres.

Safeguarding concerns, records and monitoring processes are managed within a single whole-school framework. This ensures consistent recording, coordinated decision-making and clear oversight of pupil welfare across the provision.

Shared systems support:

  • Accurate record-keeping

  • Timely information sharing

  • Coordinated intervention

  • Consistent safeguarding responses

  • Whole-school monitoring of risk and need

Early Identification and Support

Safeguarding is not only about responding to risk — it is also about identifying need early and providing support before concerns escalate.

Where a pupil may benefit from additional help, support may include:

  • Internal pastoral support

  • Targeted intervention

  • Early help involvement

  • Multi-agency support

  • Statutory safeguarding referral where required

Decisions are made through established safeguarding processes and professional judgement, with the welfare of the child always central.

Multi-Agency Safeguarding Practice

Where appropriate, the school works closely with external professionals and agencies to ensure coordinated safeguarding support. This may include working with:

  • Social care

  • Early help services

  • Health professionals

  • Local authority safeguarding teams

  • Other specialist services

Information is shared responsibly and appropriately to protect pupils and support effective intervention.

Safeguarding in Daily Practice

Safeguarding is embedded in everyday school life.

Staff maintain professional curiosity, build trusted relationships with pupils and respond promptly to concerns. Pastoral support, behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing are closely connected to safeguarding practice.

This ensures that pupils feel safe, supported and able to learn.

Consistency Across Learning Centres

Although Healey Learning Centre operates across multiple premises, safeguarding arrangements function as one unified system.

Policies, procedures, training and leadership oversight are consistent across all learning centres. This ensures that every pupil receives the same high standard of protection and care regardless of where they are educated.

A Whole-School Safeguarding Culture

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility and a core part of the school’s culture.

All staff are trained and expected to uphold safeguarding standards, follow procedures and act in the best interests of pupils at all times.

Through strong leadership, clear systems and consistent practice, we ensure every young person is protected, supported and able to thrive.
