Whole-School Governance
Governing Body and Strategic Oversight
Healey Learning Centre operates under a single governing body with responsibility for the school as a whole, including all learning centres.
The Governing Board provides strategic oversight, accountability and regulatory governance across the entire provision. Governance is exercised at whole-school level rather than at individual learning centre level, ensuring consistent standards, shared accountability and unified strategic direction across all learning centres.
The Board holds senior leadership to account for the quality of education, safeguarding, pupil outcomes and organisational performance across the whole school, regardless of where teaching and learning takes place.
Governing Board Function
The Governing Board is committed to ensuring that Healey Learning Centre provides high-quality specialist education within a safe, supportive and well-led environment.
Its core role is to set the strategic direction of the school, provide challenge and support to senior leaders, and ensure that the school meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities.
In essence, the Board provides strategic leadership while ensuring robust accountability.
Core Responsibilities of the Governing Board
Strategic Vision and Direction
Setting the long-term strategic direction of the school and ensuring that improvement, pupil outcomes and wellbeing remain central to planning and decision-making.
Accountability and Performance Oversight
Holding the Headteacher and senior leadership team to account for educational standards, safeguarding effectiveness and overall school performance across all learning centres.
Policy Development and Compliance
Overseeing the development, implementation and review of school policies to ensure legal compliance and promote the welfare of pupils and staff.
Monitoring Standards Across Learning Centres
Ensuring consistent educational quality, safeguarding arrangements and operational effectiveness across all learning centres through whole-school monitoring and reporting.
Financial and Organisational Oversight
Ensuring resources are managed effectively to support the school’s educational priorities and long-term sustainability.
Stakeholder Engagement
Maintaining appropriate communication and engagement with pupils, parents, staff and the wider community.
Governance Across Multiple Learning Centres
Governance arrangements are designed to support the operation of one school delivered across multiple learning centres.
The Board receives whole-school performance information, safeguarding reporting and quality assurance evidence that reflects activity across all locations. This enables informed strategic oversight of the distributed model and ensures that consistent standards are maintained throughout the school. This ensures that all learning centres operate within a single regulatory, strategic and accountability framework.
Relationship Between Governance and Leadership
The Governing Board works closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team while maintaining clear strategic oversight and accountability.
Senior leaders report regularly to the Board on:
pupil outcomes and progress
safeguarding and wellbeing
quality of education
staffing and workforce development
operational performance across learning centres
school improvement priorities
This structured reporting ensures robust governance and effective oversight of the entire provision.
